Tungsten Heavy Alloys

Heavy metal alloys are pseudo-alloys of tungsten with a nickel-iron or nickel-copper matrix. They are produced by powder metal and sintering processes. The most outstanding property of heavy metal alloys is the high density of 17-19 g/cm³. Comparable densities are only reached by gold or platinum metals, which are considerably more expensive. Other exotic materials like rhenium, uranium or tantalum achieve these densities, but are either too difficult or expensive to obtain, or they have unsatisfactory mechanical characteristics.

UKO presses and sinters high quality tungsten alloy (WHA) blocks, rods, balls and other shaped parts. We have a large and growing inventory of standard molds and sizes, sold as “sintered rough” or machined to provide tighter tolerances. Contact us today to discuss your WHA application.

Tungsten alloy ball is small in volume but very dense, which means the product can be used in various fields requiring small but heavy parts, including

  • The counterweights for golf clubs, fishing weights, hunting pellets;
  • Counterweights for oil logging;
  • Mobile phone vibrator, clock cube, self-winding watches, anti-vibration toll holders, flywheel weights.

Tungsten Heavy Alloy Ball

Properties:

  • Diameter: 1.0mm-100.0mm
  • Density: 15.8-18.50 g/cm3
  • Composition: W content: 85-97%, W-Ni-Fe, W-Ni-Cu
  • Surface: Sinter state, Grind state

The production process of tungsten alloy rods is to first mix tungsten powder and other metal powders and then press them. It is then sintered into a semi-finished product. The blank is swaged and machined into a tungsten alloy rod. These tungsten alloy rods can be made into any length according to customer requirements. The surface is polished. Tungsten alloy rods can be processed into hollow shapes. Special lengths and structures can be processed according to customer needs.

Application:

Tungsten alloy rods can be used in counterweights, radiation shields, military products, welding rods, molds, and more. Some sporting goods also use tungsten alloy rods, such as darts, golf clubs, etc. Tungsten alloy rods have other uses, such as vacuum electronics, and can also be used as high temperature components.
